Stacey R. Johnson Humanities Speakers Series
Wednesday, March 26 - 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM
Location: Palmetto Center for the Arts (PCA)
About the Event
Northwest Vista College (NVC) announces that Jamie Margolin, a prominent climate-focused author, and co-founder of the international youth climate justice movement, Zero Hour, will be visiting the campus on Wednesday, March 26.
Margolin will engage in discussions with students about climate change at the Palmetto Center for the Arts. Sessions will be held at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., and both are open to the public.
About the Speaker
A writer, community organizer, and public speaker based in Seattle, Margolin's work is rooted in her love for the Pacific Northwest, which fuels her dedication to protecting the environment. Witnessing the devastating effects of climate change firsthand, such as ocean acidification, and the decline of local wildlife, has solidified her commitment to climate action.
As the co-founder of Zero Hour, Margolin spearheaded the first Youth Climate March in Washington, D.C., and 25 other cities globally in 2018. She is also a plaintiff in Our Children's Trust Youth v. Gov, a Washington state lawsuit asserting that the state is violating her generation's constitutional rights to a livable environment by contributing to climate change. Margolin believes that her generation is already experiencing the harmful impacts of climate change and will inherit a world facing increasing climate chaos. Margolin's writing has been featured on CNN, Refinery29, The Seattle Times, TeenInk, Writer’s Digest, The Guardian, and Huffington Post.
